Abigail (Эбигейл) is the 2019 Russian steampunk fantasy adventure film. Directed by Aleksandr Boguslavsky. Co-produced by Viktor Denisyuk and Yevgeny Melentyev from the KinoDanz company.
The film stars Tinatin Dalakishvili as Abigail Foster. With Gleb Bochkov, Rinal Mukhametov, Artyom Tkachenko and Ravshana Kurkova. The set was designed like the aesthetics of the last 30 century and steampunk mode. Filming was held in Saint Petersburg, Gatchina, Moscow. And in the historic part of Tallinn, Estonia.
Visual images of fantasy cities are based on ancient buildings and narrow streets of Tallinn and Saint Petersburg. The rest was completed with the help of computer graphics. The main drawing was completed in Tallinn. Subsequently converted into the streets of Fensington’s fictional city.
Synopsis
Abigail is a young girl who lives in a small town. The city had years before experienced an epidemic of a mysterious disease. Until finally the city was sealed from the outside world by the government. One of those who fell ill was Abby’s father. Abby was then taken away when she was 6 years old. While searching for his father, Abby learned that the epidemic never happened. It turns out it’s all a big trick.
In fact, the father now lives in the wizarding world. The city has been captured by the dark, who wiped out all wizards. As well as forbidding magic, and trying to erase all traces of its existence. The epidemic is an issue used to ‘clean up’ the city of Magi. Over the years, the Special Department continued to arrest anyone who appeared to possess magical powers.
Humans who have this power are considered to be infected by the disease. Most residents do not know those city rulers are not their protectors. The city lord is, in fact, their jailer. One day, Abby discovered that magical power was stirring inside her. His strength scared him. However hard he tried to suppress it, magic grew inside him. Agents from the Special Department began to chase after him.
Abigail had to run away from her house. He began a journey full of adventure and danger. This trip completely changed his perception. About the world in which he lives, the existence of magic, and himself.
