It said that in a village in Mexico there lived a young woman named La Payton Maria. She comes from a poor family but acknowledged in her town for her beauty.

One day, a very wealthy nobleman traveled through his village. He stopped when he saw Maria. Long story short, the two fell in love and got married. Maria’s family was happy when Maria married into a rich family, but the nobleman’s father was hugely disappointed because his son married poverty. Maria and her new husband built a house in the village to stay away from her father, who did not agree.

Finally, she gave birth to two sons. Her husband always travels and stops spending time with his family. When she returned, she only cared for her sons, and Maria knew that her husband loved his children very much.

One day, he returned to the village with a younger woman, and separated from his son, ignoring Maria. Maria, angry and wounded, took her children to the river and drowned them in blind anger. He realized what he had done was wrong. He regretted and immediately looked for them.

But the river has taken them away from their children. A few days later, Maria was found dead by the river. Challenged at the gates of heaven for the existence of his children, he was not permitted to enter the afterlife until he found them. Trapped between the land of the living and the dead, he spent eternity searching for his lost children. He is always heard crying for his children.

The people gave it the name “La Llorona.” It said that if someone hears Llorona crying, one must run the other way around. Llorona’s cries bring misfortune or even death. Many parents in Latin America use this story to scare their children away from being late.

La Llorona abducted children around at night, mistaking them for themselves. He begged forgiveness from heaven and drowned the children he had kidnapped. Old Mexican people who claimed to have seen him said that he appeared at night or in the afternoon by the river or lake, wearing a white or black dress with a veil.
